Dr Jonathan Mufandaedza is the Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of the National Biotechnology Authority of Zimbabwe. Dr. J Mufandaedza graduated from National University of Science and Technology (NUST) with a Bask Applied Biotechnology (Hons.) degree and immediately worked as a chemist. Subsequently he enrolled for Msc Biotechnology degree with University of Zimbabwe. His academic work started at the UZ where he worked as a lecturer before he moved to start the Department of Biotechnology at Chinhoyi University of Technology. He became the Inaugural Chairperson of Biotechnology department and the patron of Foundation of Biotechnology (FOB). His PhD studies at Wageningen University of Research in collaboration with Rhodes & University Limpopo, South Africa.
He later graduated with a PhD from University of Limpopo, as a graduating University. Taught at the University of Limpopo and became a leading Consultant for Limpopo Agro-Technology Station (LATS). Dr Mufandaedza came back home and rejoined Chinhoyi University of Technology as the Chairperson of the Department of Biotechnology for the second time and later moved to Great Zimbabwe as Dean of Science. Dr Mufandaedza had collaborated on several manuscripts with friends and colleagues, in which some have been published and presented on various International conferences, workshops and seminars. Dr Mufandaedza after his ten-year carrier in the academic field thought it was time for a change of the scenery and moved to Harare to lead the National Biotechnology Authority of Zimbabwe as the Registrar and Chief Executive Officer.
In his own words “management is all about serving people and it involves creating an environment where fellow members of staff can attain their potential. Equally, I will feel content if fellow members of staff achieve their potential. My vision is to transform NBA to be a leading hub in biosafety and biotechnology, research and development.”
